Softball Closes Season with 3-2 Loss to Lehigh in Patriot League Tournament

BOSTON, Mass. – Bucknell softball got off to a great start with two runs in the top of the first inning, but saw its season come to a close with a 3-2 loss to Lehigh on Friday in the consolation final of the Patriot League Tournament.
The Bison closed the season at 28-24 overall. They earned the second seed in the conference tournament after posting a program-record for Patriot League wins with a record of 14-3.
Lehigh improved to 27-27 overall and advanced to play Boston University. The Mountain Hawks will have to beat the Terriers twice to win the title, while the Terriers need just one win.
Bucknell was fired up early after taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Anna Gimmestad smacked an RBI triple to right-center field that scored Allyse Volpe, and Lauren Hadley followed with an RBI double off the fence.
Lehigh responded immediately with two runs in the bottom of the first. The Mountain Hawks then scored the go-ahead run on an RBI double by Jaelynn Chesson in the bottom of the third inning.
Volpe gave the Bison a chance in the top of the seventh. She reached on a two-out bunt single and advanced to second on a bad throw. Lehigh closed the game with a strikeout.
Gabriella Nori pitched 6.1 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win for Lehigh.
Bucknell finished with six hits. Taylor Wolfgang doubled while Ryanne Rokos and Jess Hom added singles.
