LIVE SCORING
MALVERN, Pa. -- Bucknell freshman Jason Lohwater holed out for eagle from 160 yards out on the par-4 18th hole, highlighting his team-best 1-over-par 72 on the opening day of the Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Villanova at White Manor Country Club. The Bison counted four scores of 75 or better for a team total of 294, which puts them in a tie for 11th place in a 20-team field.
Lohwater also had a birdie on the 9th hole, and his 72 puts him in a tie for 17th place on a warm spring day that saw a number of low scores throughout the field. Drexel's Connor Schmidt fired an 8-under 63 to open up a three-shot lead on Akron's Beau Bayerl. All told, 11 players broke par on Monday and five others shot even par. Lohwater is tied for 17th place at +1.
Elsewhere for Bucknell, Peter Bradbeer shot 73, Carter Cook had a 74, and J.P. Raftery made a team-high three birdies en route to a 75. Chris Tanabe, coming off a win at Lafayette's tournament last week, shot 77.
Paced by Schmidt's 63, Drexel posted the best team score of the day, a 12-under 272. Akron is just two shots behind at -10, and then Lafayette and Colgate are tied for third but well back at 2-over 286. Bucknell is tied for 11th with host Villanova, one shot behind La Salle and Lehigh. Fordham is one behind the Bison in a tightly bunched field.
The second and final round gets underway on Tuesday at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. Bucknell will play in foursomes with Villanova, Lehigh and La Salle.
