
No. 23 Women's Water Polo Completes 3-0 Weekend With Win Over George Washington

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- The No. 23 Bucknell University women's water polo team completed a 3-0 weekend on Sunday morning with an 11-7 win over George Washington at Blodgett Pool.Â

A career day for Sarah Mooney with three goals and four assists highlighted the Bison attack, helping Bucknell to its 22nd win of the season.

Bucknell was ready to go from the opening sprint, as Nina Benson won the ball off of the first whistle to help set up Mooney's first goal at the 7:29 mark of the first period.

Bucknell picked up a second goal, this time from Benson, with 3:47 to go on the powerplay. Kali Hyham drew the initial ejection for the Bison, before Ally Furano assisted Benson's goal to give Bucknell a 2-0 lead.

The Colonials battled back with two goals of their own on either side of another Benson goal to trim Bucknell's lead to 3-2 after one.

Bucknell clamped down defensively in the second period, shutting out George Washington as it raced to a 5-2 halftime lead.

A 3-1 start to the third period helped the Bison remain in control of the game, with A. Furano scoring off an assist by Mooney for Bucknell's eighth goal at the 3:03 mark in the third.

A. Furano scored Bucknell's 11th goal at the 7:14 mark of the fourth, and Bucknell cruised to an 11-7 win over the Colonials to improve to 3-0Â in CWPA play.

The seven-point outing (3g, 4a) was the first of Mooney's career in the Orange and Blue, with A. Furano and Nina Benson each netting three goals as well.

Georgia Lewis tied her career-high with 13 saves for a save percentage of .650. Larissa Hodzic drew four ejections in the win.
