Softball 8-0 in the Patriot League for the First Time After Doubleheader Sweep of Lafayette

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell is 8-0 in the Patriot League for the first time in program history after sweeping Lafayette in a doubleheader Saturday at Becker Field. The Bison improved to 18-15 overall, beating Lafayette 8-0 in game one and 9-1 in game two. Both games went just five innings.
The Bison have won eight consecutive games, all against league opponents and are one of just two unbeaten teams in league play. The other is Boston University at 5-0.
Lafayette fell to 4-25-1 overall and 1-7 in the conference. The final game of the series will be played on Sunday at noon and will stream on the Patriot League Network.
Game 1 – Bucknell 8, Lafayette 0 (5 innings)
Raeanne Geffert pitched a three-hit shutout while striking out eight batters to lead the Bucknell to an 8-0 win in game one. It was the Bison's sixth consecutive win in games started by the junior.
Bucknell scored its eight runs on eight hits, two walks and two errors. Taylor Wolfgang had the lone extra-base hit of the game, hitting a high flyball off the top of the left-field fence.
Allyse Volpe had a pair of singles and one of the team's five stolen bases. The freshman has a team-leading 11 multi-hit games this season.
Lauren Hadley swiped two bags, while Jess Hom and Ryanne Rokos had one stolen base apiece.
Adding singles for the Bison were Hadley, Anna Gimmestad, Hom, Rokos, and Sarah Baluch.
Geffert faced 19 batters and needed just 69 pitches to get through her five innings of work. She upped her record to 10-8 while lowering her ERA to 2.21.
The Bison scored in all four innings they batted, including three runs in both the second and third innings.
Game 2 – Bucknell 9, Lafayette 1 (5 innings)
It was Lauren Lichtenwalner's time to shine in the circle in game two as she didn't allow an earned run in her five innings of work in a 9-1 Bucknell victory.
Lichtenwalner gave up just one hit, didn't walk a batter, and struck out four. She improved to 7-5 on the season and lowered her ERA to 3.24. The junior faced just 17 batters through five innings of work.
Volpe was a perfect 4-for-4 and scored three runs, raising her batting average to a team-best .410. Marisa Alemany was also perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3, including a double and triple, with three runs scored and three RBIs. Her triple came with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning and drove in a run to put the Bison up 8-1. She then scored on a wild pitch to end the game.
