Softball Beats Binghamton for 14th Win in 15 Games

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell took advantage of three Binghamton errors that resulted in seven unearned runs in an 8-7 win over Binghamton in a non-conference softball game Thursday at Becker Field. The Bison improved to 24-16 with their 14th win in 15 games, while the Bearcats fell to 14-22.
Fittingly, a game that had six errors between the two teams ended on a miscue as Lauren Hadley's two-out grounder with the bases loaded was misplayed at shortstop to allow the game-winning run to score in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Raeanne Geffert pitched 3.2 scoreless innings to get her 14th win of the season. She allowed four hits but avoided giving up a run thanks to five strikeouts and no walks issued. She lowered her season ERA to 1.90.
While many of the runs were unearned, the Bison bats still played a role as they tallied nine hits and six RBIs. Three players combined for six hits as Anna Gimmestad had a single and triple, while Hadley and Halie Mariano each had two singles. Nicole Rivait tripled, while Ryanne Rokos and Julienne Egofske each singled.
Egofske scored the game-winning run after leading off the seventh inning with a walk. She moved up to second on a bunt single by Mariano and went to third on a two-out walk by Rokos.
Lauren Lichtenwalner started and pitched two scoreless innings for Bucknell. The Bison appeared to be on their way to an easy win after scoring the game's first five runs in the bottom of the second inning, but Binghamton responded with four in the top of the third.
Trailing 6-4, Binghamton scored three runs in the fourth to take a one-run lead. Bucknell tied the game on a hard-hit liner to right field from Taylor Wolfgang that resulted in a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning. Gimmestad was on third with a triple and scored on the play.
Binghamton had nine hits in the game, including triples by Marissa Braito, Sara Herskowitz, and Lauren Martinez.
The Bison now return to Patriot League play as they put their perfect 12-0 record on the line in a three-game series at Army West Point. The teams are scheduled for a doubleheader at noon on Saturday and one game at noon on Sunday.
