WORCESTER, Mass. – A season unprecedented in program history continued for Bucknell softball Saturday as the Bison remained unbeaten in the Patriot League with a doubleheader sweep at Holy Cross.
The Bison posted back-to-back shutouts, winning 5-0 in the first game and 1-0 in the second contest to improve to 22-16 overall and 11-0 in the conference. The team's previous best start in league play was 6-0.
Bucknell swept the doubleheader despite playing without freshman leadoff hitter Allyse Volpe, who did not make the trip due to an injury. She hit .621 (18-29) through the first nine league games. Marisa Alemany stepped into the leadoff spot for the first time this season and went 3-for-6 with two doubles over the two games.
Raeanne Geffert pitched all seven innings of the first game and the final inning of game two, giving her 32.2 straight innings without allowing a run.
The final game of the series is scheduled for Sunday at noon. The Bison are all alone in first place in the Patriot League, while Boston University is second at 7-1 after a doubleheader sweep of Colgate on Saturday.

Taylor Wolfgang broke a scoreless tie with a three-run home run in the sixth inning, and Geffert pitched her fourth consecutive shutout to lead Bucknell to a 5-0 win in game one.
Geffert didn't allow a hit through the first five innings. It was the third straight game that the junior took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, and it's been just two weeks since she pitched a no-hitter against Lehigh.
Geffert improved to 13-8 on the season and 7-0 against league opponents, giving up three hits and two walks while striking out eight. She has 134 strikeouts compared to 34 walks in 145.1 innings this season.
Bucknell was going up against a pitcher in Kelly Nelson who struck out 27 batters in a 16-inning game this season. The Bison finally got to her in the top of the sixth inning, which started with Lauren Hadley reaching on a hit-by-pitch. Anna Gimmestad followed with a single, and Wolfgang plated them both with her three-run blast down the left-field line.
The Bison had eight hits in the game, including a triple as part of a 3-for-3 day from Halie Mariano. Alemany, Jess Hom, and Sarah Baluch all singled.

The game's only run came on freshman Nicole Rivait's first career home run as Bucknell hung on for a 1-0 victory in game two. That was all the offense the Bison needed as Lauren Lichtenwalner started and gave up just two hits in six scoreless innings to get her eighth win of the season.
Rivait's first career homer came at a perfect time as she broke a scoreless tie with two outs in the top of the fourth inning, sending the first pitch she saw over the left-field fence.
Meanwhile, Lichtenwalner picked up right where Geffert left off, shutting down the Holy Cross lineup. She no-hit the Crusaders through four innings before giving up a leadoff double in the fifth. That was the only inning she faced any real trouble after putting a second runner on with a one-out hit-by-pitch. Lichtenwalner got the next batter to hit into a lineout double play and ended the inning with a groundout.
Lichtenwalner kept the ball out of the air for most of the game. Twelve of her 18 outs came on the ground.
Geffert entered with a runner on first and nobody out in the bottom of the seventh inning. She retired three straight batters to record her second save of the season.
Bucknell finished with eight hits off Nelson for the second straight game. Alemany had two doubles, while Rivait added a single to her home run. Hom, Hadley, Gimmestad, and Baluch had one hit apiece.
