Softball Drops Games to UNLV and UMass Lowell

STANFORD, Calif. – Bucknell softball struggled to get timely hits as it dropped a pair of games Saturday on the second day of Stanford's Cardinal Classic. The Bison lost 7-0 to UNLV in the first game and were defeated 4-1 to UMass Lowell in the second game.
The Bison, who dropped to 6-10 on the season, had 15 hits over the two games combined. Anna Gimmestad hit safely in both games to up her streak to eight games. That matches Allyse Volpe for the longest streak of the season.
Bucknell concludes play at the Cardinal Classic with games against UMass Lowell and No. 22 Stanford on Sunday.
UNLV 7, Bucknell 0
Similar to the game between the two teams the day before, the score was close until UNLV pulled away for five runs in the sixth inning on its way to a 7-0 win over Bucknell. The Rebels improved to 17-5 on the season.
The Bison had four hits, including one in each of the first three innings. Gimmestad had a double, while Tara Baglivo, Lauren Hadley, and Julienne Egofske all singled.
Breana Burke pitched the shutout for UNLV. She struck out five batters and didn't issue a walk in a complete-game outing.
Reina Bondi led UNLV at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double.
UMass Lowell 4, Bucknell 1
Bucknell scored first, but UMass Lowell scored four unanswered runs to get the win. The River Hawks upped their record to 6-7.
The Bison took a 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Taylor Wolfgang that plated Gimmestad in the top of the third inning.
The River Hawks scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take the lead and then added two insurance runs in the fifth inning.
Gimmestad had three of Bucknell's 11 hits, while Wolfgang had the team's lone extra-base hit with a double and a single. Baglivo had two singles, while Hadley,
Jess Hom, Ryanne Rokos, and Lauren Lichtenwalner had one single apiece.
