No. 24 Women's Water Polo Travels to Aztec Invite

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The No. 24 Bucknell University women's water polo team will head to San Diego, Calif. for four games as part of the Aztec Invite from March 9-10.
The 13-3 Bison are coming off of a 3-1 weekend at the Harvard Invite with wins over Iona, Gannon, Toronto, and a close loss to 15th ranked Harvard. All three of Bucknell's losses this season have come to ranked opponents, while two of those games have been decided by two goals or less.

Bison Notes
- Bucknell went 3-1 on Saturday and Sunday to improve its record to 13-3 for the Bison's best 16-game start to a season since 2008, when the team started 14-2 and ended up 25-8 overall.
- The Bison had their eight-game win streak snapped against No. 15 Harvard on Sunday in a narrow 8-6 loss.
- The Bison fell just short of tying the program record for consecutive wins in a season was nine that was set in the 2000 and the 2005 season.
- All three of Bucknell's losses this season have come to ranked opponents. Bucknell is 1-3 this season against ranked opposition, with a win against Marist and losses against Wagner and Harvard.
- The Bison will take on two ranked opponents as well as one receiving votes in its most challenging four-game stretch to date.
- Including the game against No. T-17 Harvard, and upcoming matchups against No. T-17 Long Beach State, No. 12 Loyola Marymount, and No. 19 San Jose State; Bucknell will play six opponents either ranked or receiving votes through eight matchups for its toughest test of the season so far.
- Ally Furano did manage to tie the single-game record for points with ten (6G, 4A) in a 15-6 victory over Gannon on Saturday.
- The Stamford, Conn. native has scored six goals in a game three times this season, and posted a career-high six assists against Toronto in the game following her record-tying performance.
- Furano also passed 100 career goals for the Orange and Blue over the weekend.
- Emily Konishi had her streak of 16 straight sprints won snapped against Harvard, where she went 1-for-2. Konishi has lost only four sprints all season, and the Bison as a team have won 83 percent (48-for-58) of their sprints to date in 2019.
- Konishi now sits at 167 career helpers, second all-time and 54 behind all-time leader Kandis Canonica. She has also risen to 328 career points this season, just three shy of fourth in Bucknell history. Canonica also holds the career record in points with 423.
- Kali Hyham needs just 13 points to pass 100 points for her career, and has accumulated 34 goals to date this season.
- Bucknell went 1-3 at the Aztec Invitational last season, defeating Sonoma State before falling to No. 11 UC San Diego, Cal State Northridge, and San Diego State.
- Bucknell used a staunch defensive effort in limiting the Seawolves to just three goals, with Konishi leading the way with three goals. Nina Benson, Sarah Mooney, and Regina Younger also each found the back of the cage.
About Azusa Pacific/Series History
- Bucknell is 1-1 all-time against the Cougars, with the last win for the Bison coming in 2012, 14-10.
- Azusa Pacific is 12-9 this season, and has won two straight.
- Host San Diego State is 5-7 on the year, and has won their past two contests, including an 11-4 win over No. 21 Cal State Northridge.
- Bucknell has never defeated the Aztecs (0-10), including a narrow 7-11 loss in 2018. Hyham (3), A. Furano (2), and Konishi (2), each enjoyed multi-goal outings, and Konishi scored the 100th goal of her career.
- Bucknell managed to close and 8-4 halftime deficit to 8-7, but SDSU pulled away late to take an 11-7 win.

- The Bison have met Fresno Pacific just once in 2012, an 8-4 win.
- The Sunbirds are 3-12 so far this season, but have defeated St. Francis (Brooklyn) and Villanova in their last two contests.

- Bucknell is 0-10 all-time against the Tritons, with the Bison coming closest in 2012, an 8-10 loss.
- In last season's meeting, an 8-4 loss, Benson found the back of the cage twice, with Mooney also scoring.
