LEWISBURG, Pa. – In a game marked by lengthy scoring runs, the Bucknell women's lacrosse team was edged by Robert Morris, 13-10, on Saturday at Graham Field.
After the Bison (1-4, 0-1 Patriot League) flipped an early 4-1 deficit into a 7-4 lead behind a 6-0 run, the Colonials (3-1, 0-0 NEC) answered with a 9-1 run to take a 13-8 advantage. Bucknell, which scored the game's final two goals, ultimately ran out of time to draw even with Robert Morris again.
During the Bison's 6-0 run, which stretched from the first half's 20:49 to 6:50 marks, Audrey Walsh netted two goals while Sarah Dohler, Kate Fiore, Morgan Steinhacker and Tegan Warren added one apiece. Lillie Hunt posted three of her career- and game-high four assists during that run.
The Colonials, who closed the first half's scoring at the 4:30 mark to trim their deficit to 7-5, came out hot in the second half. They scored the half's first four goals to build a 9-7 advantage; after Dohler found the back of the net to draw Bucknell back within one, they responded with four unanswered goals.
Robert Morris's Mackenzie Gandy led all players with five points on a hat trick and two helpers. For Bucknell, Dohler (3g-1a) and Hunt (4a) reached the four-point threshold while Steinhacker and Walsh added two goals apiece.
Jamisen DeWitt matched Bucknell's school record with eight ground balls; a Bison previously posted that total in 2009, 2004 and 2000 (two times). She now has 139 in her career, good for fourth in the Bison annals. She also made eight saves and caused three turnovers.
Callie DeWitt had a strong game, causing four turnovers and scooping up four ground balls. Steinhacker paced the Bison with four draw controls.
In an evenly matched tilt, Robert Morris held advantages in shots (34-25) and shots on goal (21-18) while Bucknell led in ground balls (27-22) and draw controls (13-12). Both teams struggled with turnovers, combining for 47 over the course of the contest on near equal totals. They also went a combined 37-of-49 on clears.
