SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Bucknell women's lacrosse team dropped a 13-7 decision to UC Davis on Sunday at San Diego State's Aztec Lacrosse Field.Â
The Aggies (5-4) pulled away from the Bison (1-5) during the second half, scoring six of its seven goals to turn a slim 7-6 halftime advantage into their third-straight victory.
UC Davis was led by Amanda Outcalt, who totaled seven points on three goals and four assists. Sorana Larson added four goals while Kate Graham posted three points (1g-2a). For Bucknell, six different players scored a goal, with Julia Bradbury finding the back of the net twice. Eve Calabria added a pair of assists.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair. After the Aggies used a 3-1 run to turn a 4-3 edge into a 7-4 lead, the Bison netted two unanswered goals in a minute window to draw back within a single strike. First, Morgan Steinhacker finished off a Calabria feed with 8:50 on the clock; then, Bradbury netted her second goal of the contest at the 7:50 mark.
Bradbury's goal proved to be the last for awhile, as both teams were held scoreless until the second half's 16:12 mark. Shannon Cross broke the 21-minute scoring drought, kicking off UC Davis's 6-1 run.
For Bucknell, Callie DeWitt filled the stat sheet with eight ground balls and four caused turnovers. With her eight ground balls, DeWitt matched a school record last broken by her twin sister, Jamisen, in the Bison's previous game against Robert Morris. Before Jamisen logged eight ground balls against the Colonials, a Bison previously posted that total in 2009, 2004 and 2000 (two times).
Senior Audrey Walsh netted her 50th career collegiate goal while freshman Maggie Ashley scored her first.
In net, Jamisen DeWitt totaled 11 saves and three ground balls. UC Davis's two goalies combined for eight saves. The Aggies held leads in shots (34-20), shots on goal (24-15), ground balls (27-20) and draw controls (15-7), bolstered by their strong second half.
The Bison next wrap up their California trip with a game against San Diego State on Wednesday, March 13 at 10 p.m. (7 p.m. PT).
