No. 24 Women's Water Polo Splits Two Games at Aztec Invite

SAN DIEGO, Calif.—The No. 24 ranked Bucknell University women's water polo team split its final two games of the Aztec Invite on Sunday with a win over Fresno Pacific before falling to No. 14 UC San Diego in the nightcap.
Game One: Bucknell 17, Fresno Pacific 3
The Bison scored their second-highest goal output of the season with 17 in a rout of Fresno Pacific on Sunday morning. Ally Furano led all scorers with five goals on the day, while Marcela Herrera notched a hat trick of three goals.
Emily Konishi added two goals for the Bison, who have reached the 14-win mark for the fifth consecutive season with the victory. Ten different Bison found the back of the cage in the game.
Hayley Pogue earned the win in the cage for the Bison.

Game Two: Bucknell 4, UC San Diego 11
The two teams engaged in a defensive battle early on, with the Tritons and the Bison each netting just one goal in the first period. The Tritons scored just 30 seconds into the game before a goal from A. Furano knotted things up at one with 1:25 left in the period.
Bucknell kept things close in the second, limiting the Tritons to two goals, but could not manage a tally of their own as they fell behind 3-1 entering the halftime intermission.
Konishi cut into the UCSD lead one minute into the third period with a goal, but the Tritons answered right back with a goal of their own at the 6:45 mark of the third. The goal for UCSD would be one of three straight unanswered in the third, before Hyham stopped the run with an even strength goal with 3:54 left in the third.
However, UCSD pulled two more goals to end the third and held on for an 11-4 victory in the fourth.
Konishi scored twice, while A. Furano and Hyham notched the other two goals for the Bison. Bucknell outshot the Tritons 26-22, but only managed to convert .154 of their shots on the day. Hayley Pogue made five saves in the cage for Bucknell.
