LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's lacrosse team was downed by Hofstra, 13-4, in its home opener on Saturday at Graham Field.

The Pride (1-1) used a pair of 4-0 runs to pull away from the Bison (0-2). Nine different Hofstra players found the back of the net over the course of the contest, with Alexa Mattera registering a hat trick. In addition, Katie Whelan logged four points on equal totals of goals and assists.

For Bucknell, Kate Fiore, Kali Peeples, Amy Roche and Audrey Walsh netted goals. Walsh, who also recorded an assist, led all Bison with two points. Roche's tally, which came during a second-half man advantage, was the first of her career.

The Pride's first 4-0 run stretched from the first quarter's 20:18 to the 5:34 marks. A Walsh goal with 31 seconds left in the half sent Bucknell to the locker room down by a 6-2 margin. Hofstra then opened the second half with its second 4-0 run, which began at the 25:31 mark and ended at the 13:52 mark. That run made it a 10-2 game in the Pride's favor; though the Bison scored two of the next three goals, Hofstra ended the game on a 2-0 run to bring the final score to 13-4.

With 22:31 on the clock in the first half, Tegan Warren had a goal waved off for a stick violation. That strike, which came off a rebound on a free position shot, would have evened the score at 2-2; instead Hofstra went on to score four in a row to go up, 6-1.

In net, Jamisen DeWitt and Jess Smith both made 11 saves. For Bucknell, Gabby Walsh (4), Fiore (3), Callie DeWitt (3) and Jessie Britton (2) caused multiple turnovers while Warren tied Shannon Boyle for the game high with five ground balls. C. DeWitt filled the stat sheet, adding four ground balls and two draw controls.

The Pride held advantages in shots (30-23), shots on goal (24-15), ground balls (24-20) and draw controls (15-4). Hofstra earned 12 free-position attempts, converting on four of them.

The Bison next travel to Saint Francis (Feb. 20 at 6 p.m.) and UAlbany (Feb. 23 at 12 p.m.).
