No. 24 Women's Water Polo Splits Final Two Games at Bison Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell University women's water polo team dropped its first game of the day at the Bison Invitational on Sunday morning to 18th-ranked Wagner, 12-3, but bounced back with a 16-2 win over La Salle to finish the Bison Invitational 3-1.
Bucknell is now 6-2 with both losses coming to the 18th- ranked Seahawks this season.
Game One: No. 18 Wagner 12, Bucknell 3.
The Seahawks used an 8-2 run in the first half and never looked back en route to a 12-3 victory at Kinney Natatorium on Sunday morning.
After the Seahawks opened the game on a 5-0 run, Larissa Hodzic managed to score a goal near the end of the period to cut into the deficit on an assist from Ally Furano. The Bison then cut the lead further to 6-3 in the second period with goals from A. Furano and Sarah Mooney, but Wagner managed to hold off a Bison comeback attempt in the second half to win the game 12-3 and give the Bison their largest margin of defeat this season.
Nina Benson added two steals for the Bison, while Georgia Lewis posted ten saves in the defeat.

Game Two: Bucknell 16, La Salle 2
The Bison bounced back in the last game of the day with a resounding 16-2 win over the Explorers to finish the tournament 3-1 overall.
The Bison jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter after goals from four different scorers. Gigi Rojahn started off the proceedings just 20 seconds into the game, while A. Furano, Emily Konishi, and Kali Hyham each found the back of the cage through the period to put the Bison in control early on.
Bucknell extended its lead to 8-0 with three more goals in the first four minutes of the second period before La Salle managed to pull a goal back at the 4:09 mark. After the La Salle goal, the Bison pulled away with six straight goals to take a 14-1 lead entering the fourth period. Bucknell cruised to a 16-2 win to finish 3-1 overall in its third straight tournament dating back to last season's CWPA Championships.
Bucknell had ten different players notch either a goal or an assist, with A. Furano leading the way with six points on four goals and two assists. Konishi added three goals and two assists, and Rojahn posted two goals and two assists on the day. Nina Benson also registered three goals. The 16 goals for the Bison is tied for the highest total this season when they defeated La Salle Feb. 2, 16-6. Bucknell has now managed to score 11 or more goals in six of its eight games so far this season. Hayley Pogue registered four saves after earning the start for Bucknell.
