ITHACA, N.Y. - Olivia Harris posted another outstanding performance in goal for the Bison, but a first quarter penalty stroke gave Cornell a 1-0 lead and would eventually prove to be the game-winner. With the loss, the Bison go to 7-6 on the season, while Cornell moves to 7-3.
An all-around defensive game was spoiled for the Bison when Cornell was awarded a penalty stroke four minutes into the first quarter. Cornell's Kirsten Pienaar shot left and the ball reached the back of the cage before Harris could reach it, giving Cornell a 1-0 lead in the game.
Cornell continued to apply pressure throughout the first half, and most of Bucknell's chances came on penalty corners. The Bison attempted four in the first half, but couldn't get one past goalkeeper Maddie Henry.
Bucknell's offense looked stronger in the second half as it spent most of the time on the attack. Still, shots were hard to come by in the third quarter, with the Bison attempting the only one in 15 minutes by either team.
Again, the Bison had the advantage in shots during the fourth quarter, but couldn't get one through to tie the game before time ran out.
Harris finished the game with 10 saves against 15 shots faced. It was the second time in as many days the senior recorded double-digit saves. Of the Bison's 10 shots, Leah Fogelsanger attempted three, putting one on goal. The Bison also attempted nine penalty corners to Cornell's four.
Up next, Bucknell returns to Graham Field to host Colgate on Saturday, Oct. 19 at noon. The Bison are 33-10-3 in all-time meetings with the Raiders and have won the last 10 matchups. Saturday is also Bucknell's Play4TheCure game.
