UPDATE: An earlier version of this story mentioned that Bucknell had clinched a Patriot League Tournament berth. The Patriot League office has issued a retraction, as the Bison have not yet officially locked up a spot.
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Fueled by two-goal performances by Kaelyn Long and Leah Fogelsanger, Bucknell field hockey topped Colgate 6-1 for its third Patriot League win of the season.
Long's performance in Saturday's win was the best of her career, scoring twice on two shots while also providing a pair of assists. The junior had the assist in the game's opening score, which Marisa Morakis put away less than four minutes into the game.
At the 10-minute mark, Long scored one herself on a penalty corner. Four minutes later, the Bison made good on another corner attempt. This time it was Megan Keeney connecting for her second score of the season. Long was assisting on the play, giving the junior four points before the game had reached its halfway point.
The Bison lead was 3-0 at halftime, but the score stayed put for less than a minute in the third quarter as Long scored once more 41 seconds in. The goal came on another penalty corner attempt, a category the Bison dominated in throughout the game. Brittany Willwerth and Morakis were assisting on the score.
The Raiders broke the shutout with a goal in the 52nd minute, but back-to-back goals by Leah Fogelsanger in the final five minutes of play boosted the Bison to a 6-1 final.
Long ended the day with six points, which doubled her season total. Fogelsanger's two goals came on a team-high five shots, and the junior joined Long with 12 points on the season. Freshman Maddie Rehak also had a big day, tallying assists on two of the three first half goals. Megan Keeney and Morakis each totaled three points, and Payton Kenney registered the first assist of her career.
Up next, Bucknell faces Lafayette in Easton, Pa. on Saturday, Oct. 26 at noon. The Leopards sit one spot ahead of the Bison in league standings with a 4-0 record. That game will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
