1/12/2019 8:13:00 PM | Women's Track and Field
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Bucknell women's track and field team had several strong performances in a very challenging field of teams as it competed for the first time in 2019 at the Nittany Lion Challenge on Saturday afternoon.
Results
"Considering the long layoff and a tough winter training camp, I was extremely pleased with the overall results of both teams." Said Head Coach Kevin Donner. "We traditionally train through our 1st meet of the year and see a lot of improvement as the season progresses and I am confident that will happen. The competition was very stiff with some good Power 5 conference teams plus Army and Georgetown and we handled the pressure well."
The Bison were joined at the meet by Army, Georgetown, Iowa State, Maryland, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Point Park, UConn, and Virginia.
Molly Montalvo finished third in the 20 lb weight throw and seventh in the shot put. Overall in the shot put, the Bison placed five throwers in the top 12 with the addition of Delia Sipe in third, Daija Misler in eighth, Abby Whitaker in 11th, and Jenna Phillips in 12th.
Montalvo's 20lb weight throw of 57 3-1/2 was an ECAC qualifier and broke her previous personal best of 57-2 that was the third highest in school history.
Tia Tardy picked up the top individual finish in the running events for the Bison, placing third in the 800 with a time of 2:14. 03. Teammate Gianna Mincone followed behind in fifth place with a 2:18.
Also earning top eight finishes for the Bison were Kaitlin Salisbury, (5th, 60-meter dash) and Payton Capes in the mile (fifth, 5:03.41).
Natalie Waterhouse added a seventh place finish in the 600, clocking in a time of 1:37.67.
Alexandra Butz finished tied for seventh in the high jump after clearing 5-3 while teammate Lexy Forrestal also managed to clear 5-3.
