NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Bucknell men's golf team carried the momentum from last week's victory at the Quechee Club Collegiate Challenge with a strong even-par first round 280 at the Macdonald Cup on Saturday morning at The Course at Yale. The Bison were solidly in the top four for much of the day, but dropped a bit with a 293 in the afternoon round and now sit in seventh place with the final round still to come on Sunday.
J.P. Raftery shot a 2-under-par 68, Chris Tanabe and Peter Bradbeer both shot 72, and Connor O'Brien followed with a 72 to account for Bucknell's 280 total in the morning round. O'Brien led the way in the afternoon with a 71, followed by Tanabe's 72, Raftery's 74, and Bradbeer's 76.

Starting the day on the 10th hole, Raftery was nearly blemish-free in the opening round. He bogeyed the par-3 13th hole, but the rest of his card showed three birdies and 14 pars. The three birds came in succession at 15, 16 and 17.
Tanabe made three birdies and 13 pars in his opening round. His only hiccups were a double-bogey at 18 and a bogey at 9. Tanabe made three more birdies in his afternoon 72.
