FINAL RESULTS
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Bucknell men's golf team closed with a 302 team score on Sunday and finished in ninth place at the Macdonald Cup, hosted by Yale. After logging 280-293 a day earlier, the Bison had a few tough holes in the final round, as scores were up across the field.
Peter Bradbeer led Bucknell in round three with a 2-over-par 72. Bradbeer and Chris Tanabe were the low Bison for the weekend with 218 totals over 54 holes, putting them in a tie for 26th place.
Bradbeer opened the tournament with an even-par 70, and he appeared headed for that number again until a double-bogey at No. 7, which was his final hole of the day. Bradbeer had just birdied No. 2 and No. 4 to get back to even on the day.
Tanabe and Jason Lohwater both shot 76 on Sunday, followed by Connor O'Brien with a 78 and J.P. Raftery with a 79.
No. 15 Illinois began the day with a three-stroke lead over host Yale, and the Illini outscored the Bulldogs 282-286 on Sunday to win the team title by seven shots Princeton and Stirling both shot 282 in the final round to finish third and fourth, respectively, followed by Boston College in fifth.
James Nicholas of Yale had an impressive tournament, finishing with a 15-under 195 (64-64-67). He outdistanced the Illinois tandem of Bryan Baumgarten and Adrien Dumont de Chassart, who tied for second at 8-under.
The Bison are back in action on Oct. 8-9 at their own Bucknell Invitational.
