Women's Golf Off to Good Start at Penn State

36-HOLE RESULTS
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The Bucknell women's golf team counted four scores in the 70s in the first round and three in the second, as the Bison posted solid scores of 308 and 309 on the opening day of the Nittany Lion Invitational at the Penn State Blue Course. Â
In a very competitive field of 16 teams, the Bison sat in eighth place after 18 holes and are now 12th after 36, with the third and final round still to come on Sunday. Washington (294-287) is 5-over par as a team and leads host Penn State by four shots in the team standings. Rutgers, Seton Hall, Navy, Xavier, Santa Clara, Penn, Georgetown and Youngstown State round out the top 10.Â
Bucknell is two shots back of 11th-place Rollins and one in front of Yale. The Bison also lead High Point, Akron and Ohio.Â
Casey Morrow is the low Bison at 7-over (76-75) through 36 holes. Morrow is tied for 30th place on the individual leaderboard. She had a very consistent day, making one birdie and 13 pars in the morning and then a birdie with 14 pars in the second round. Â
Katie Childers (74-79) and Erin Holmes (79-75) also posted two rounds in the 70s, with Holmes' second-round 75 a career best. Childers fashioned two birdies in each round, while Holmes totaled five birdies on the day, three coming in the second round. She posted a 1-under 35 on the course's front nine after starting the round on No. 15. Holmes was 1-over with four holes to play before making a bogey at 11 and a double at 13, but she bounced back nicely with a finishing birdie at the par-3 14th.Â
Freshman Sun Woo Jeon shot a 79 in her first collegiate round, then posted 89 in the afternoon. Meredith Langs shot 86-80.Â
Freshman Sally Sohn also had a good day, shooting 75-79 while playing as an individual.Â
Sarah Willis, an indie from Penn State, leads the individual chase at 6-under after posting rounds of 68-70. Maeve Rossi of Rutgers (-3) and Cara Basso of Penn State (-1) are the only two other players under par after 36 holes.Â
The final round starts at 9 a.m. Sunday with a shotgun start. The Bison will be paired with Rollins and Youngstown State.Â
