Women's Golf Defeats Northern Kentucky at the Battle at Vero

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's golf team defeated Northern Kentucky 5.5-1.5 at the Battle at Vero on Wednesday afternoon at the Grand Harbor & Beach Club in Vero Beach, Florida. The Bison and Norse competed in match-play at the par-70 Harbor Course.
Katrina von Behren, Katherine Vice, Nicole Yun, Joelle Johnson, Paige Richter and Sophia Bardunias all won their matches as the Bison won six of the seven. The Bison and Norse played out all 18 holes in the match. Â
Yun did not lose a single hole on the day. Yun finished her match 6&4, and Bardunias won her match 4&3. Joelle Johnson won her match 8&6, and Richter won her match with a birdie on the 17th to win 3&1. Vice went four-up after eight holes and held on to her lead to finish 2&1. Von Behren won her match one-up after winning her match after 20 holes.Â
Yun's opponent parred the first two holes, but the junior opened her day with two birdies to got two-up early. She dominated the front nine, taking a five-hole lead into the back nine. Yun later birdied the par-five 16th hole as she finished her round seven-up.
Johnson opened up an even bigger lead with a six-up advantage after the front nine. The freshman lost only one hole on the day and she made 16 pars.
Bardunias and Eva Maley were tied after 11 holes before Bardunias won four consecutive holes including a birdie on the 13th to win her match.
Richter and Kenna Jenkinson went back-and-forth over the first seven holes, but Richter won the eighth and ninth holes to go three-up after nine. Jenkinson won two holes to get back within one after 15 holes, but Richter won the last three holes. She clinched her match with a birdie on the 17th and followed up with another birdie on the 18th to win by four holes.
Vice won the second hole against Lilly Baumann and held on to the lead for the remaining 16 holes. The junior went four-up after eight holes with a birdie on the seventh. Baumann got Vice's lead down to two holes, but Vice held the lead and clinched the match with a par on the 17th.
Von Behren held a three-hole lead after 10 holes, but Conlee Lindsey came back to tie the match to salvage half of a point. Von Behren led by two holes after the 16th, but Lindsey took the 17th and birdied the 18th to tie it.
Lila Smith and Gianna White went back-and-forth over the course of the match, and White won the final hole with a birdie to take the match. Smith won the first two holes and White won the next two holes to even it up. Smith won holes six and seven before White won three straight to lead after nine. White held her lead after 11, but Smith birdied the 12th to tie it back up. White tied it back up on the 15th, and they tied the next two holes before White's birdie on the final hole.
Bucknell continues its Spring Break competition with the NKU Spring Fling hosted by Northern Kentucky. The Bison will compete in a field of 11 total teams at the Sandridge Golf Club in Vero Beach, Florida. Bucknell tees off on Friday and will finish up the 54-hole tournament on Sunday.
