36-HOLE RESULTS
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Junior Peter Bradbeer made seven birdies en route to a 5-under-par 66 in the second round of the Cornell Invitational on Saturday at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. His career-best mark, which was one shot off the school record, helped Bucknell to a 285 team score after an opening 292, and the Bison sit in fourth place among 15 teams heading into Sunday's final round.
At 577 total, the Bison trail only Yale (554), Saint Joseph's (573) and Penn (575) after 36 holes. The Bulldogs are 14-under as a team and are well ahead of the pack. Temple lurks one shot behind the Bison in fifth place, followed by Cornell and Dartmouth at 579.
Bradbeer is tied for ninth on the individual leaderboard with a 1-under 141. He made three birdies in his opening round, all during a roller-coaster back nine. Then in the afternoon, Bradbeer made birdies on holes 1, 2, 6, 7, 11, 15 and 16. His only blemishes were bogeys on 4 and 18.
Bradbeer just missed the Bucknell scoring record. Ben Pellicani shot a 65 at the Bucknell Golf Club during the 2005 Patriot League Championship. The record in relation to par is 6-under. Will Bachman (2010 Colgate Invitational) and Andrew Cohen (2010 Lafayette Invitational) both posted 66 on a par-72 course. Bradbeer's previous collegiate low was a 4-under 68 at the Binghamton Invitational in the fall of 2016.
Bradbeer was not the only Bison to have a very good day. Chris Tanabe and J.P. Raftery are both tied for 15th at 1-over 143. Tanabe posted round of 72 and 71. He made eight birdies on the day, five in the first round and three more in the second. Raftery opened with a 1-under 70, offsetting two bogeys with three birdies and 13 pars. Raftery made par or better on 31 of his 36 holes on the day.
Jubal Early tossed in a pair of 75s, and Jason Lohwater shot 78-75.
Siena's Jared Nelson is the individual leader at 8-under (67-67). He has a two-shot lead on Temple's John Barone (68-68), while two others are at 5-under. The round of the day was a 65 from Yale's Sean Yi, who fell down the leaderboard with an afternoon 75. Bradbeer's 66 was tied for the best second-round card.
The third and final round gets underway Sunday morning at 8 a.m. The Bison will play in threesomes with Temple and Cornell.
