Women's Swim & Dive Rises to Third at Bucknell Invitational
11/17/2018 9:44:00 PM | Women's Swimming and Diving
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Thanks to individual titles by Abigail Rosenberg and Maggie Wyngowski, the Bucknell women's swimming & diving team rose to third at the Bucknell Invitational on Saturday at Kinney Natatorium.
The Bison, who were fourth entering the second day, now own 776 points. Defending champion Towson (957) remains in the lead with Fordham (850) second.
Rosenberg (200 freestyle) and Wyngowski (400 IM) both clocked blazing fast times that would have been third in Bucknell history if they weren't already the school record holders. In total, the Bison scored seven top-three finishes.
Maddie Hartigan followed up her impressive victory in the 500 freestyle with a runner-up showing in the 200 freestyle. Her time of 1:49.41 was good for third in school history. Emma Hadley added a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke, clocking in at 55.61; her time would have slotted her fifth all-time if she didn't already own Bucknell's second-fastest mark (54.44).
Julie Byrne (100 backstroke), Meagan Hathaway (400 IM) and the 800 freestyle relay team of Hathaway, Hartigan, Maura McManus and Rosenberg all placed third. Hathaway posted a time of 4:24.96, placing her seventh in the Bison annals.
Lindsay Smalec reached the 'A' finals in both the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle, taking fourth and eighth respectively.
Beyond Hartigan and Hathaway, two other freshmen wrote their names in the Bucknell record book during Saturday's preliminaries. Meghan Taner clocked the program's seventh-fastest time (56.00) in the 100 backstroke while Alexis Faria took eighth in school history in the 100 butterfly (56.42). In the 'A' finals, Faria went on to place seventh while Tanner finished eighth.
The Bucknell Invitational concludes tomorrow, with the preliminaries starting at 10 a.m. and the finals following at 5 p.m.
