Bucknell at a Glance
• Bucknell's meet against Boston University will be its first scored event of the 2018-19 campaign. The Bison opened their season on Sept. 29 by hosting UMBC in a non-scored meet; Garrett Sommer swept the diving events while Matt McGoey and Sean Quinn both picked up victories in individual medleys.
• In 2017-18, the Bison went 2-7 (2-4 Patriot League). They placed third (411 points) at the 10-team Patriot League Championships and ninth (177 points) at the 21-team ECAC Championships, a one spot improvement at both events from the 2016-17 campaign.
• Chris Devlin (1st) and McGoey (2nd) were Bucknell's 2018 All-Patriot League honorees.
• The Bison returned two school record holders: Chadd Cummings (100 breaststroke, 54.65) and McGoey (200 IM, 1:47.84). In addition, returnees Cummings (200 medley, 400 medley), Charlie McFarland (200 medley, 400 medley, 400 freestyle) and Jacob Lubinski (400 medley) were members of school record setting relay teams.
• Bucknell lost Devlin, a four-time All-Patriot League First Team selection and two-time Swimmer of the Patriot League Championships, to graduation. Devlin left Lewisburg as the school record holder in three events and as the owner of six Patriot League individual titles.
• The program welcomed eight newcomers in 2018-19. They hail from eight different states: Colorado, Idaho, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
Boston University at a Glance/Series History
• Boston University is currently 1-0 (1-0 Patriot League) on the season after topping Lehigh, 162-144, at home on Oct. 6. The Terriers won eight events, including the final three, to edge the Mountain Hawks.
• In 2017-18, the Terriers posted a 6-4 (4-1 Patriot League) record. They went on to place fourth at the Patriot League Championships with 406.5 points.
• Boston University holds a 3-1 lead in the all-time series against Bucknell. The Terriers have won the past three meetings.
• During the 2017-18 campaign, Boston University topped Bucknell, 184-102, in Boston. The Bison won four events and recorded seven runner-up finishes during the meet; McGoey had big day at the Competition Pool, winning the 200 IM (1:56.13) and taking second in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.57) and 200 breaststroke (1:57.16).
A Look Ahead
• The Bison next host Johns Hopkins on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. After that event, which occurs during Bucknell's Homecoming weekend, the team will host a reception for parents, alumni and friends of the program in the McGee Room.
