Bison will host PL quarterfinal game on Tuesday

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Basely McClaskey put Navy in front in the seventh minute of the match and then assisted on two insurance goals to lift the Mids to a 3-0 victory over Bucknell in Patriot League women's soccer action at Emmitt Field on Friday evening. With the loss, the Bison (7-10-1, 5-4-0 PL) are now locked into the No. 4 seed for the Patriot League Tournament, and they will host a quarterfinal game on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Third-place Navy (11-5-3, 7-2-0 PL) can move up to the No. 2 seed if Boston University loses to Colgate on Saturday.

Bucknell had a chance to catch Navy for the No. 3 spot by taking all three points in this one, but the early strike from McClaskey put the Mids in control. Navy's leading scorer tried to serve a ball in from the top left corner of the penalty area, but it was smothered by a sliding Jenna Marek, The ball fell right back at the feel of McClaskey, and the Navy left back smashed home a shot to the top right corner from 22 yards out for her seventh goal of the season.

McClaskey would later add her eighth and ninth assists of the year on corner kick services. In the 36th minute, her inswinger was nodded down by Cadie Higginson from inside the six-yard box. Navy took the 2-0 lead and a 9-2 shot advantage into the halftime break.

Bucknell generated more opportunities in the second half, while limiting the Mids to just a single shot. That lone attempt found the back of the net, however. McClaskey's corner kick to center of the area was headed back across goal by Alex Jackson to Kristina Dzhandzhapanyan, whose volley threaded the needle between three Bison stationed near the right post.

The Bison registered six shots in the second half. The best look came from Maddie Dano on a free kick from just outside the area. Dano's curler over the wall just missed the top right corner.

Theresa Adu-Attobrah notched three saves for Bucknell, while Sydney Fortson had two for Navy. The Bison had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

Bucknell will not know its quarterfinal opponent until Saturday evening, as five teams are still vying for the final two Patriot League Tournament berths.
