LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell University men's soccer team dropped its first Patriot League game of the season 2-0 at home to Colgate on Saturday afternoon at Emmitt Field.
Bucknell falls to 5-4-3, (3-1-1 PL) , while Colgate improves to 6-3-5 overall, (2-1-2 PL).
Bucknell looked to gain the lead just eight minutes into the game, when Stefan Gollisz found some space in the box. Gollisz managed to get the ball out of his feet and fire a quick shot towards the right corner, but the shot was saved by Colgate goal keeper Jacob Harris.
The Bison pressure continued just two minutes later, when Nick King skipped past a Colgate defender and was taken down just outside of the 18. King's ensuing free kick just clipped the top of the Colgate wall and went over the net to keep the game scoreless.
Colgate's best chance of the first half came in the 12th minute, when Oliver Harris attempted to curl his shot inside the right corner, but Bucknell goal keeper Ryan Ott was alert and positioned well to catch the attempt.
Although Bucknell managed to have a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks in the first half, the Bison and Colgate each only managed one shot on target throughout the opening 45 minutes.
The Bison started the second half strong, as Alex Clarke managed to force Harris into a save just one minute into the period.
The next few minutes however, Colgate managed to gain momentum, with two corner kicks in the 51st and 52nd minutes followed by a shot from Baraka Kiingi that Ott managed to keep out of the goal.
Neither team managed a shot over the next 15 minutes, until the Raiders broke through on a corner kick that was nodded back across goal from Christian Clarke to Kiingi. Kiingi found the back on the net in the scramble and gave Colgate a 1-0 lead.
Colgate managed to find a second goal just 2:46 later, when Oliver Harris cut inside on his left foot from the right sideline and fired a low drive that curled into the bottom left corner.
Bucknell pushed numbers forward towards the end of the game, but was unable to net a goal to get back into the match.
Colgate outshot Bucknell 12-6, with a narrow 4-3 advantage in shots on frame. Bucknell held a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.
Bucknell travels to Binghamton for a nonconference match on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
