Each of the Bison's Two League Losses Have Come in Overtime
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell nearly pulled off the upset against nationally-ranked Boston University, but Allie Doggett scored 1:10 into the second overtime to give the Terriers a 3-2 win in a key Patriot League field hockey game Saturday at Graham Field.
Bucknell dropped to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in the Patriot League, with both conference losses coming in overtime to the top two teams in the standings. Boston University, ranked 24th in the nation, improved to 8-5 overall and 4-0 in the league.
The teams traded goals in regulation as they battled to a 2-2 tie. It started fast as Boston University went up 1-0 on a goal by Kathryn Scheerer just 2:54 after the opening whistle.
Senior Claire Lesher's first goal of the season tied the game for Bucknell in the 15th minute. Freshman Emily Doyle did a lot of work to set up the score, getting the ball into the arc before centering the ball to Lesher in front of the goal.
The game wasn't tied long before the Terriers regained the lead on Rebecca Janes second goal of the season. Maggie New assisted on the play, which came in the 18th minute.
The Bison trailed for a large chunk of the game until senior Lexi Quick came through with a clutch goal. She took the insert on a penalty corner from Lesher and fired from long range for her sixth score of the season.
Quick's game-tying goal was made possible by an excellent defensive play by Sam Chanzit five minutes earlier. With Harris stepping up to make a play well out in front of the goal, the Terriers nearly went up by two as a shot was bouncing toward the open crease, but Chanzit made a great hustle play to track it down and smack it away as she collided with the post.
Harris made six saves in the game, including three in the two overtime periods. Kathleen Keegan stopped three shots for Boston University.
