WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Bucknell men's track and field team took third out of 44 teams at the Colonial Relays on Saturday. The Bison tallied 71 points, finishing behind champion Shippensburg (80.75) and Rutgers (76).
Bucknell has now placed in the top three at the Colonial Relays in each of the past six years, including team titles in 2011 and 2014.
“We had a good weekend overall and got a lot out of this meet,” says head coach Kevin Donner. “To only be nine points from the win was a moral victory. We need to clean a few things up and get a few guys healthy.”
After advancing past the preliminaries of the 110-meters hurdles on Friday, Grant Reynolds took third place in the finals with a time of 14.59.
Matthew Fay scored the Bison, taking third in the pole vault with a height of 15-7. His performance is a personal-best and ranks top-10 in program history.
The Bison scored points in four relays on the day. Kyle Adams, Scott Gulizio, Cole Conte and John Westwood made up the 4x800 relay team that took fourth, while the 4x100 relay consisting of Dan Gevirtz, Rocco Ordille, Reynolds and Griffin Robertson placed fifth in a field of 21 teams.
Gevirtz and Robertson teamed up with William Melchionni and Ryan Johnson to take fifth in the 1,600 sprint medley, while Jacob Ashkettle, Wade Heidel, Anthony Menza and Reynolds each ran legs in the 4x400 relay, finishing fifth out of 26.
Joseph Breen added to the Bison score in the discus, taking seventh with a toss of 143-10.
The Bison return to action Apr. 9 to compete at the Mason Spring Invitational, hosted by George Mason.
