FAIRFAX, Va. – The Bucknell men's track and field team finished second out of 13 schools at the Mason Spring Invitational Saturday, hosted by George Mason. The Bison tallied 97 points, while Navy took the title with 131 points.
"The conditions made things very tough on the athletes," says head coach Kevin Donner. "However, I was pleased with the mindset that most of our athletes brought and I believe we are a better team because of how we handled the cold and windy conditions. I believe we are set up well for next week's Bison Outdoor Classic."
Leading the way for the Bison was freshman Reggie Harris, who took first in the triple jump with a leap of 43-11 ¾.
William Melchionni scored in two events on the day. Melchionni took fourth in the 200-meter dash, while finishing fifth in the 400. Anthony Menza also scored in the 400, taking seventh, while Wade Heidel contributed to the team score with a fifth place finish in the 200.
John Westwood took third out of 46 in the 800, crossing the line in 1:54.65 to score 10 points. Scott Gulizio also tallied four points, placing seventh.
Dan Gevirtz advanced past the preliminaries of the 100 with a time 11.07. Gevirtz finished sixth in the final heat to add four points to the team score.
