LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Following a dominant performance in Bucknell's 19-9 Patriot League win over Army West Point on Saturday, Bison sophomore Gretchen Richter has been named both the Corvias Patriot League Midfielder of the Week and the Bison Athlete of the Week. This is Richter's second Patriot League honor of the month, as she was also picked as the Midfielder of the Week back on March 7.
Richter had a major impact in multiple phases of the game in the first-ever meeting with Army West Point. She logged six goals, two assists, nine draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers. The six goals and eight points were both career highs, while her nine draw controls were one shy of her personal best and two away from the Bucknell single-game record.
Four of Richter's draw controls came during Bucknell's decisive 9-0 run over the first 11:33 of the game. She also had two goals and two assists in that rush. In the second half, after the Black Knights closed the game to 11-5, Richter scored three straight goals in a span of just 3:38 to put the game back out of reach. The last of those tallies was set up by her caused turnover on an Army clear attempt.
Richter, a Second Team All-Patriot League selection as a freshman last season, now has 20 goals, 10 assists and a league-high 40 draw controls on the season. She shattered the school record with 84 draw controls last season, and her 124 career DCs already put her fourth on Bucknell's career list.
Richter and the Bison are now 7-3 overall and 1-1 in the Patriot League. They already have five more victories than last season and have surpassed last year's goal total with seven games still remaining in the regular season.
Bucknell is back in action on Wednesday at Lafayette at 7:30 p.m.
