
Women's Lacrosse Suffers First Loss of Year, 12-8 to Villanova

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Eve Lukowski scored a career-high four goals and Bucknell tallied four goals in a row in the second half to turn a six-goal deficit into a manageable two-goal deficit, but Villanova was able to hold off the Bison, who lost to the Wildcats by a 12-8 score Saturday afternoon at Graham Field. Bucknell fell to 2-1 on the season, while the Wildcats improved to 1-3.
Lukowski registered two goals in each half as she matched the most goals for a Bison player this season. Maddy Molinari found the back of the net three times, while Mary Margaret Kenney scored once.
Three different Villanova players had multi-goal outings, led by Devon Brown's three.
Bucknell freshman goalie Jamie DeWitt registered a career-high 10 saves as Villanova outshot the Bison 31-15 in the game. Wildcat goalies Jaclyn Fraum (first half) and Julia Michaels (second half) combined for eight saves.
The two teams alternated goals in the early part of the first half as the score was tied 2-2 following Molinari's first goal with 13:48 to play. Villanova then scored three straight times before Lukowski rounded out the first-half scoring with 5:31 to play.
The Wildcats then outscored the Bison 5-1 in the first 10 minutes of the second half to open up a 10-4 lead. Bucknell battled and Molinari (2), Kenney and Lukowski scored four consecutive goals. Molinari's final tally cut the Bison deficit to 10-8 with 5:14 to play.
Villanova added two goals in the final 90 seconds of play after three Bucknell players were whistled for yellow cards for the final four-goal margin.
After winning just two of nine draw controls in the first half, the Bison split 12 chances in the second half.
Ground balls were virtually even with the Wildcats holding a 15-14 edge.
Bucknell will be back in action next Saturday, March 5, when it plays at Manhattan. The Bison's next home contest is March 9 when they host Monmouth at 5 p.m.
