LEWISBURG, Pa. – Maddy Molinari scored just 15 seconds into the game, and the goals just kept coming for the Bucknell women's lacrosse team, which broke the school single-game scoring record in a 25-1 rout of Delaware State on Wednesday at Graham Field at Holmes Stadium. Molinari was one of three Bison to score four goals, and Eve Lukowski had an eight-point night with three goals and five assists.
Molinari totaled six points with four goals and two assists, while Gretchen Richter and Ally Furbay both logged four goals and one assist. Richter and Molinari both added five draw controls apiece.
Christina Manis and Emily Becker both contributed two goals and two assists for the Bison, who moved the ball well and had 19 assists on their 25 goals. Some freshmen even got in on the scoring bonanza, as Audrey Walsh tallied a goal and three assists, and Callie DeWitt had two goals and one helper. Every Bison on the roster got in the game, 13 had at least one point.
Callie's twin sister, Jamie DeWitt, started in goal for Bucknell and finished with two saves without allowing a goal in 43 minutes of action. It was a quiet night for the Bison goalies, as Bucknell finished the game with a 47-3 shot advantage.
The Bison won 20 of the 26 draws, and when Delaware State did gain possession, Bucknell usually took the ball away quickly. The Bison forced 27 turnovers and held the Hornets to 9-for-18 on clears. Fourteen different Bison had a caused turnover, and Annie Gilbertson led the defense with three ground balls.
Bucknell scored twice in the opening 50 seconds, and it was 5-0 at the 10-minute mark. The game went into running clock mode with 12:24 left in the first half, when Walsh picked out Richter for a nice goal. The Bison led 12-0 after a 32-shot first half, and it was 23-0 before Delaware got on the board on a Kiana Dawson shot off a restart with 5:38 to go in the game.
The previous school record for goals in a game was 24, set against Howard on Feb. 19, 2011. The Bison have also had two 23-goal games. This was also the program record for goal differential.
Bucknell is back in action on Saturday at Mount St. Mary's at 3 p.m.
