LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell women's track and field sophomore Christine Bendzinski captured first-place in the 3000-meter run on Saturday at the Penn State Relays. Bendzinski crossed the finish line in 9:56.40 for the ninth-fastest time in program history.
Bendzinski was one of two Bucknell individual winners on the day. Tabitha Wismer (1000m) beat out a field of 13 runners, clocking in at 3:04.94. Juniors Kathleen Fitzgerald and Lauren Lamoureux took fourth and fifth, respectively, to round out the Bison participants.
“It was a very solid opener for our women,” said head coach Kevin Donner. “A few people are still rusty from the break and a tough week of practice, but I felt it was one of our better openers ever. Our depth is outstanding.”
Senior Sophia Nnadi (shot put) qualified for the ECAC Championships at the meet with a new personal-best of 46-3 ¾. Her mark was the third best performance in program history.
It was a solid day for the Bison in the long jump, as Bucknell notched four top-10 finishes. Junior Kimberley Lapszynski took fourth in the event, while Devon McDonald, sophomore Alison Varano and freshman Alexis Auman rounded out the top finishes.
The 4x200-meter relay team of sophomores Carli Lucke, Emily Ryan and freshmen Shalyn Fahey and Chelsea Reynolds were runner-up, finishing in 1:47.02.
Juniors Sarah Chandler (3000m) and Carly Reiner (triple jump) each took third in their respective events.
Also taking third place was the 4x400-meter relay squad of senior Jess Bridle, juniors Laura Papili, Allison Sharkey and freshman Colleen Hanisco.
Bucknell will have a two-week layoff before it returns to action with another home meet, the Gulden Invitation on Saturday, Jan. 23.
