LEWISBURG, Pa. – After setting the school-record in the 300-meter at the Bison Opener, senior Jess Bridle set another record at Gerhard Fieldhouse with her performance in the 400-meter at the Gulden Invitational on Saturday. Bridle crossed the line in 55.88, breaking the previous record set by Jenni Zymet (55.93) in 2014, while qualifying for the ECAC Indoor Championships.
Sophomore Kafilat Oladiran also set a school-record on Saturday, capturing the title in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.77, breaking the mark set by Catherine Trentacoste (8.78) in 2007.
The Bison women turned in a dominant performance, tallying 96.50 points while winning nine individual events and capturing the 4x400 relay title.
“This may have been our best ever Gulden Invitational,” says head coach Kevin Donner. “We had a couple school records broken and we had a lot of ECAC-qualifiers and we really were not chasing marks today. Our depth is very good and we look forward to the next couple of weeks to see who really emerges.”
Bridle paced the Bison with titles in two events. In addition to her victory in the 400-meter, the senior ran in the 200-meter, beating out a field of 15 runners with an ECAC-qualifying time of 25.12. Her performance was the fifth fastest in school history.
Bridle was named the event's MVP for track events, while Olivia Lee from Shippensburg earned the meet's field MVP award for her effort in the triple and long jump events.
Senior Jen Silvestri beat out a field of 10 runners in the 500-meter, crossing the line in 1:16.11. Sophomores Emma Harris, Jamie Kenney and freshman Natalie Waterhouse rounded out the top-5 finishes for the Bison.
Junior Sarah Chandler and sophomore Christine Bendzinski also won their events with ECAC-qualifying times. Chandler captured the 800-meter title (2:15.39), while Bendzinski won the 1,000-meter run (2:53.23).
Senior Abigail Brundage was the top thrower in the shot put, recording a heave of 45-7 ¾. Fellow senior Sophia Nnadi was the runner-up in the event with her toss of 44-9 ½. Both performances were ECAC-qualifying marks.
Other individual winners for the Bucknell women were Kate Scott in the 3,000-meter (10:02.02) and Lauren Hudson in the high jump (5-4 ½).
Bucknell will send runners to two separate events next weekend as one group will stay home for the Bison Open & Multi, while the other group will make the trip to the Penn State National Invitational.
