NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Gretchen Richter scored four goals and Maddy Molinari had three goals and two assists, but the Bucknell women's lacrosse team dropped a 12-10 decision at Columbia in a non-league game Tuesday evening at Robert K. Kraft Stadium. Caroline Joy and Victoria Kalamaras scored three goals each for the Lions, who broke open a 7-7 tie with a decisive 4-1 run in the latter part of the second half.
Emily Kookogey registered two goals and an assist, and Christina Manis added a goal for the Bison (2-14). Richter led the squad with four draw controls, upping her school-record season total to 80. Kookogey went over the 100-point mark for her career. She now has 101 points on 77 goals and 24 assists.
The Bison found themselves behind 2-0 after only 1:15 of play, but they gained their first lead of the night on consecutive goals by Kookogey, Richter and Molinari. The Lions managed two goals on free-position shots just 21 seconds apart, but another three-goal run from that same trio gave Bucknell its largest lead at 6-4 with 4:21 left in the half.
Sara Ruzzi pulled one back in the final minute to bring the Lions within 6-5 at intermission, and then Kalamaras and Katie Angulo opened the second-half scoring to give the home team the lead once again. Manis tied the game with her 14th goal of the season off a feed from Molinari to tie the game at 7-all with 22:00 to play.
But Columbia scored four of the next five goals to take the lead for good. Joy's unassisted score with 6:49 remaining put the Lions up 11-8. Richter scored for Bucknell with 4:47 to go, but Kalamaras quickly answered. Molinari then made it 12-10 with 2:57 to go. After Columbia won the draw, Bison goalie Elizabeth Duswalt made a big save, but the Bison turned the ball over on the clear.
Richter forced a Columbia turnover in the final 30 seconds, but Kelsey Gedin made two late saves to preserve the Lions' victory.
Both teams attempted 24 shots in the game. Columbia led 24-18 in ground balls and 12-11 in draw controls. Duswalt finished with six saves for Bucknell, while Gedin had seven in the Columbia crease.
Bucknell has one game remaining in its season, a Senior Day home game against Boston University on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Bison will honor their nine seniors prior to the contest, which will be streamed live on the Patriot League Network.
