LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Gretchen Richter scored four goals for Bucknell, but Boston University used a nine-goal second half to rally past the Bison 11-9 in the final game of the 2015 regular season on Saturday afternoon at sunny Graham Field.
Bucknell finishes 2-15 overall and 0-8 in the Patriot League, while Boston University takes a 7-8 overall mark and a 5-3 conference record into next week's Patriot League Tournament, where it will be the No. 4 seed.
The Bison honored their nine seniors prior to the game, and all six healthy seniors were in the starting lineup. Three of them scored, including reserve attacker Chloe Chou, who notched her second career goal and first since her freshman year. Cori Thielemann added a goal and three draw controls, and Emily Kookogey tallied a goal and two assists.
The Terriers were locked into the No. 4 seed coming into the game, and they also used a number of reserves in the game. The Bison led 5-2 at the half after Kookogey set up Mary Margaret Kenney for a goal with 18 seconds remaining. But Jill Horka and Ally Adams -- two veterans who did not play at all in the first half -- came on the second and sparked Boston University's rally.
Horka notched three goals and four draw controls, and Adams had two goals and an assist. Mickenzie Larivee also scored twice as part of a 5-0 run to start the second half. Horka's unassisted tally gave Boston University a 7-5 lead just 6:51 into the half.
Becca Golding scored her first goal of the season on a free-position shot to get the Bison back within one. Horka answered for the Terriers, but then a nice move by Thielemann made it 8-7 with 16:38 to play.
But just 25 seconds after the Thielemann goal, Louisa Del Rio scored her first goal of the season for Boston University, and then two straight scores by Adams inflated the Terriers' lead to 11-7 with 9:23 left. Richter scored the final two goals of the day for Bucknell, the last coming on an 8-meter attempt with 27 seconds remaining.
The Bison got out to a great start, sprinting to a 4-0 lead after only 10:47 of play. Richter scored two of those goals and was joined in the scoring column by Kookogey and Chou. Mallory Collins' team-leading 35th goal of the season cut the Terriers' deficit to 4-2 before Kenney scored in the final minute to make it 5-2 at the half.
Boston University finished with a 26-22 edge in shots and a 20-18 lead in ground balls. It was a turnover-filled game, with the Terriers committing 14 miscues and the Bison 22. Both teams were 13-for-20 on clears. Elizabeth Duswalt finished with nine saves for the Bison, while Caroline Meegan made seven stops for the Terriers.
Richter earned four more draw controls, and she finished the season with a school-record 84. The previous Bucknell single-season record was 58 set by current senior Arriana Sajjad in 2012. Senior Caroline Collins had three draw controls in this game and finishes her career with 99 DCs, seventh-most in school history.
The Bison also bid farewell to seniors Carly Downs, who made her first career start, and Blair McDonald, as well as three seniors who were unable to play due to injury: Sajjad, Claire Switala and Alex Wallace.
