Six Bison Boats Open Spring Season with Finals Appearances at Occoquan Sprints

FAIRFAX, Va. (Occoquan Reservoir) – The Bucknell women's rowing team opened its spring competition season Sunday at the Occoquan Sprints. Six Bison boats competed and all six advanced to the finals of their events with the novice lightweight four finishing first in the novice four race.
Bucknell had three boats entered in the varsity eight heats and all three advanced to the finals. Bucknell's “B” boat was the top finisher in the finals with a fourth-place showing, one spot ahead of Bucknell “C”. The Bucknell “A” boat crossed the finish line seventh in the final after placing second in its heat.
Two Bison boats raced in the novice eight competition and finished in second and third place in the final. The top Bucknell crew won its heat and then took second in the final, while the other Bison boat was second in its heat and third in the final.
The novice lightweight four claimed Bucknell's lone gold medal of the day, winning the finals race by 1.16 seconds over runner-up North Carolina.
The Bison will be in action this Saturday, April 4, when they take on Drexel and Temple on the Schuylkill River as part of the Skotedis Cup.
