LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell women's lacrosse team scored five straight goals to tie the game in the second half, but Colgate answered with a late 4-0 run and held on for a 15-12 victory on Saturday afternoon at Graham Field. Christina Manis had a big day for the Bison with four goals and an assist, while Isabel Kreitler led the Raiders with four goals.
Eve Lukowski recorded two goals and one assist, and Emily Becker and Maddy Molinari added two goals apiece for the Bison. Goalie Elizabeth Duswalt had a strong game with 11 saves, including a couple of big ones during Bucknell's second-half comeback.
Megan Ark tallied three goals and three assists for Colgate. Haley O'Hanlon had two goals and two assists, and Emily Peebles and Kallan Murray scored twice each.
Bucknell (2-8, 0-3 Patriot League) was right with Colgate (5-3, 2-1 PL) for much of the game, but the Raiders made decisive runs at the end of both halves.
The Bison trailed 4-1 early, but Becker scored her first goal of the season and Manis followed with her second of the day to bring them within 5-4 late in the first half. But Colgate shot back with three goals in the final three minutes, including an O'Hanlon score on a free-position shot with just seven seconds left to make it an 8-4 game at the break.
Murray scored both of her goals in a 46-second span for Colgate. She was knocked down after scoring her first goal, giving the Raiders the ball back with no draw. On the ensuing possession she scored again to make it an 11-6 game with 21:44 to play.
It was all Bison for the next 10 minutes. Becker raced in from up top for her second goal of the day, and moments later Manis came in from goal-line extended to make it 11-8. Lukowski scored on a free-position shot, and after Duswalt made two tough saves, Sam Rickels finished in front after a feed from Manis.
Bucknell missed one chance to tie the game when it could not finish a fastbreak, but not long after, Lukowski came from behind the cage to tie the game at 11-all with 11:49 remaining.
Katherine Doyle nabbed the ensuing draw and the Bison had a chance to take the lead. Colgate defender Jenna Frost stripped a Bison ballcarrier, however, and at the other end Ark converted a free-position attempt to give the Raiders the lead back with 9:57 to go.
Kreitler, Peebles and O'Hanlon followed with goals over the next seven minutes to extend Colgate's lead to 15-11. Caroline Collins scored her first goal of the season with 1:47 left, but the Bison were unable to get closer.
Colgate outshot the Bison 31-23 and led 20-13 in ground balls. Both teams collected 14 draw controls, with Bucknell's Gretchen Richter and Colgate's O'Hanlon recording seven each. The Bison committed 16 turnovers, while Colgate had 15.
Erika Stube had a strong day on defense for the Bison with three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
The Bison will be back in action against Patriot League rival Lehigh on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Graham Field.
