LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Carli Sukonik scored six goals and Lehigh took a big early lead and never looked back in a 17-4 win over Bucknell on Tuesday at Graham Field. Gretchen Richter scored twice for the Bison, who fell to 2-9 overall and 0-4 in the Patriot League.
It was all Mountain Hawks (4-5, 2-2 PL) in the first half, as Lehigh outshot the Bison 17-2 and outscored them 11-0 in the opening 30 minutes. Bucknell won more draws (6-5) in the first half and had a number of possessions, but it committed 11 first-half turnovers against Lehigh's pressure defense.
The Bison settled down a bit in the second half and tallied four goals. After Sukonik made it 12-0 with her sixth goal of the game 1:35 into the period, Bucknell scored three goals in a row. Maddy Molinari got the zero off the scoreboard at the 26:00 mark of the second half, with freshman Sarah Galzerano picking up her first career point with the assist on the play.
Ally Furbay and Richter scored on free-position shots, and later Richter scored again into an empty net after Lehigh backup goalie Elizabeth Nussbaum couldn't corral the ground ball from an errant Bison clearing pass.
Kendall Garden added three goals, and Lauren Beausoleil and Allison LaBeau had three assists apiece for Lehigh. Nussbaum and starter Taylor Tvedt made two saves apiece, while Bucknell goalie Elizabeth Duswalt stopped six shots. The Mountain Hawks finished with a 27-13 shot advantage.
The Bison will be back in action on Saturday at American at 1 p.m.
