Bison Go 5-1 in Opening Round of Singles at Farnsworth Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Bucknell men's tennis team went 5-1 in the opening round of singles play at Princeton's Farnsworth Invitational on Friday. Max Kane, Andrei Vitiuc, Ben Gerber, Max McDonald and Timber Erskine were the individual winners for the Bison and will compete in the quarterfinals when play resumes on Saturday.
Kane and Vitiuc both posted wins over All-Northeast Conference players from Fairleigh Dickinson in the opening round of the Pagoda Draw (Flight 5) and Forbes Draw (Flight 6), respectively. Kane recorded a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Gonzalo Quintana, who was Second Team All-NEC at No. 3 as a freshman and No. 4 as a sophomore. Vitiuc was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Diogo Garnel, who was a First Team selection at No. 6 as a freshman and No. 5 as a sophomore. Both Kane and Vitiuc will take on players from Temple in the quarterfinals.
Gerber will join Vitiuc in the quarterfinals of the Forbes Draw after a 6-4, 7-5 win over NJIT's Luka Kaic. McDonald and Erskine were both winners in the Whitman Draw (Flight 7). McDonald bested Georgetown's Bart Pananese 7-5, 6-4, while Erskine topped Drexel's Vuc Sabotic 6-3, 6-3.
Erskine and Kane teamed up to notch the only doubles victory for Bucknell on the day. They beat Fairleigh Dickinson's Pedro Carvalho and Adam Chan 8-3, before falling to Binghamton's Ludovico Cestarollo and Eliott Hureau 8-3 in their next match. The Binghamton team then won again to advance to the semifinals.
