Men's Tennis Opens Spring Season with Win Over Le Moyne, Loss at Binghamton

DeWitt, N.Y. – Bucknell men's tennis opened the 2016 spring season by splitting a pair of matches on Saturday. The Bison opened the day with a dominant 9-0 win at Le Moyne in the morning, and then made the trip to play Binghamton, where they were defeated 7-0 in an evening match.
Despite playing without a single senior in the lineup, Bucknell cruised to its first win of the season at Le Moyne. The Bison's top three players won in straight sets, including sophomore Daniel Wright with a 6-1, 6-1 win over James Gayvert on court one.
Sophomore Max Kane was a 6-3, 6-3 winner at No. 2 singles, while junior Bryan Adams won 6-2, 6-2 on court three.
The fourth through sixth singles matches were played as one set to eight points. Freshman Andrei Vitiuc was flawless in his first career dual match, winning 8-0 over Stephane Legris at No. 4 singles. Sophomore Timber Erskine was an 8-2 winner at No. 5, while sophomore Ben Gerber won 8-4 at No. 6.
The Bison also swept all three doubles matches, including a tightly contested victory by Wright and Adams at No. 1. The duo won by a narrow 8-7 (7-2) margin.
Also winning in doubles play were Kane and Erskine on court two and Vitiuc and Gerber on court three.
Bucknell ran into a tough Binghamton team in its second match of the day. The Bearcats improved to 4-0 with the win.
The Bison will play for the third time in two days to open the season when they host La Salle at the Hershey Racquet Club on Sunday at 10 a.m. The Explorers are 0-3 with shutout losses to Temple, University of the Sciences, and Drexel.
