Men's Tennis Shuts Out La Salle

HERSHEY, Pa. – Playing for the third time in two days to open the season, the Bucknell men's tennis team rolled to a 7-0 win over La Salle on Sunday at the Hershey Racquet Club. The Bison improved to 2-1, while the Explorers dropped to 0-4.
Bucknell's two wins this season have both come via a shutout. The Bison opened the year with a 9-0 win at Le Moyne on Saturday.
The Bison's fourth through sixth players in singles posted unblemished scores against the Explorers. Three freshmen, Andrei Vitiuc (No. 4), Max McDonald (No. 5) and Max Haase (No. 6) all won via 6-0, 6-0 scores.
At No. 3, junior Bryan Adams was nearly as dominant. He posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Mark Robinson.
“Today's match just goes to show that all of the fitness and strength training we've done these past few weeks is already paying off,” Adams said. “After a long weekend, we took care of business against La Salle. It was nice seeing the young guys staying composed out there and getting solid wins.”
Sophomore Daniel Wright was beaten 4-6 in the first set against Brian Balico at No. 1 singles, but bounced back in a big way with perfect 6-0, 6-0 wins in the final two sets. Sophomore Max Kane won in similar fashion at No. 2 singles, dropping the first set 6-3 before winning 6-2, 6-2 in the final two sets.
In doubles action, Wright and sophomore Ben Gerber were 6-0 winners on court two, while Vitiuc and Haase won via shutout at No. 3. Adams and Erskine teamed up with a 6-3 victory on court one.
“It is great to finish a tough weekend with a strong victory against a gritty team,” said Bucknell head coach Craig Schwartz. “We will get back to work on the court this week and prepare for a couple of tough matches next weekend. I am very excited about the potential of this team.”
Bucknell will play Maryland Eastern Shore in Quakertown, Pennsylvania on Saturday, and will travel to Williamsville, New York to play Niagara on Sunday.
