TULSA, Okla. – Bucknell's Bryan Adams was competitive again, but dropped his second three-set match in as many days at the ITA All-American Championships. Adams, who lost a three-set match to a Miami (FL) player on Saturday, fell to Tremayne Mitchell from reigning Big South champion Winthrop in the consolation bracket on Sunday.
Adams just narrowly missed picking up a win at the challenging event. He jumped out to a lead with a 6-4 victory in the first set, but dropped the next two 3-6, 6-7 (4). Mitchell played a key role in Winthrop's conference championship, earning All-Big South honors.
The Qualifying Draw of the tournament was released on Sunday, and Nick Bybel learned who his first-round opponent would be. Bucknell's No. 1 singles player will take on New Mexico's Hayden Sabatka at 8 a.m. on Monday. Sabatka, a junior, earned Mountain West Freshman of the Year honors two years ago and won 16 singles matches last season.
Bybel and Adams will also compete in the Qualifying Draw of the doubles competition. Their first match is scheduled for Tuesday.
