LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell's Timber Erskine will play for the title in the Whitman Draw of Princeton's Farnsworth Invitational after a win over Fairleigh Dickinson's William Bourne on Saturday. Erskine will take on Drexel's Daniil Ginzburg in the championship match when play resumes on Sunday.
Erskine bounced back from a 6-2 loss in the first set to Bourne. He then staved off defeat with a 7-6 (4) win in set two, and followed that with a thrilling 10-8 victory to clinch the win. Ginzburg, a transfer from Monmouth, was a 7-6 (6), 6-4 winner over Bucknell freshman Max McDonald on the other side of the bracket.
Erskine is 6-1 during the fall, including four three-set wins. He dropped the first set in all four of those matches. He has won five straight matches, including a 3-0 record and first-place finish in the Flight 3 bracket at the Bison Invite.
Including Erskine and McDonald, Bucknell had three players advance to the semifinals of their respective draws. Sophomore Ben Gerber defeated Drexel's Kashyap Ashok in the quarterfinals, but was knocked out of the winner's bracket with a three-set loss to Fairleigh Dickinson's Adam Chan in the semifinals.
Sophomore Max Kane and freshman Andrei Vitiuc both lost in the quarterfinals, but responded with wins in the consolation draw.
