WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Rain overnight and a cold wind in the morning forced Saturday's Patriot League tennis match to be moved indoors at the West Branch Tennis Club, and while the Bucknell men's tennis team put up a strong fight, Colgate pulled out the 4-3 victory. The Bison fell to 2-12 overall and 1-2 in conference play with the loss, while the Raiders improved to 9-6 overall and 3-2 in league action with the win.
Colgate played to wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to claim that point, with Luke Gensburg and Bobby Berkowitz taking an 8-5 victory over sophomore Nick Bybel and senior Aidan Lynch at the top spot, and Archer McFall and Alan Pleat grabbing an 8-4 triumph over seniors Scott Bernstein and Chris Tortora. Freshman Bryan Adams and junior Octavio Canibe were tied 7-7 with Nick Laub and Tom Haile in the No. 3 match when the point was awarded.
Bucknell battled back in the singles matches, taking three wins, but Colgate clinched the match with a victory at No. 5 singles. Bybel earned his fourth consecutive win, improved to 10-4 this season at No. 1 singles, playing to a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Gensburg, and Canibe took his tenth singles victory of the season, grabbing a 7-5, 6-4 win in the No. 4 match. Junior Jonathan DeFrancesch was also victorious in singles play, battling to a 6-2, 6-4 win over Jake Hirschberg at No. 6 singles.
The Bison will return to action on Sunday morning for another Patriot League contest, welcoming Boston University to the Bucknell Tennis Courts for an 11 a.m. match.
