LEWISBURG, Pa. – Senior Kim Nagotko set a school record in the 300-meter dash and won two events on Saturday to lead the Bucknell women's track and field team to a great opening weekend at the Bison Opener in Gerhard Fieldhouse.
Nagotko was one of seven individual winners for Bucknell and joined junior Jen Silvestri, sophomore Allison Sharkey and sophomore Elyse Pettaway on the first-place 4x400 relay team (3:55.97). Other individual champions for the Bison were Lauren Hudson, Jenna Calandro, Kafilat Oladiran, Seline Tan-Torres, Sharkey and Deanna Godby.
“Our ladies had a fantastic opener,” Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner said. “We have much better depth than a year ago and we have some freshmen that are going to contribute immediately. Our leadership is strong and we are now developing an identity.”
Nagotko's program record came with a time of 40.25 in the 300-meter dash, which she won in a field of 10 runners. The previous record was 40.65 and was set by Jennifer Zymet in 2012. Nagotko also placed third in the 60-meter dash.
Two Bucknell athletes met ECAC qualifying marks in their respective events. Calandro cleared 11-9 ¾ in the pole vault, good enough for sixth in the program's record book. Godby topped 13 runners in the 5,000-meter run, crossing the line in 17:33.06. The Bison took two of the top three spots in both events as senior Yanelis Mestre was third in the pole vault and senior Kylie Pearse was the runner-up in the 5,000.
In addition to Calandro, Bucknell had two other athletes crack the program's top-10 list. Hudson finished in a three-way tie for first in the high jump, clearing 5-5 for sixth in the Bison record book, while Oladiran won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.92 seconds, good enough for fifth on the all-time list. Junior Chrissy Haney was the runner-up to Oladiran and moved into sixth in program history. Haney also competed in the 300-meter dash and finished with the program's sixth fastest time (41.82) in that event.
Bucknell took the top three spots in the 500-meter run and the first two spots in the 800-meter run. Sharkey won the 500 with a time of 1:18.38 and was followed by sophomore Laura Papili and junior Andrea Bourgal. Tan-Torres posted a time of 2:21.22 to win the 800 by just three-tenths of a second over teammate Reagan Cerney.
Other runner-up finishes for Bucknell included Maddie Dulac (3,000), Morgan Roche (mile), and Oladiran (200). Third-place finishers were Kim Lapszynski (long jump) and Jenn Silvestri (400.
UMBC's Mercedes Jackson set a facility record in the 60-meter dash (7.46).
The Bison will have a month off before their next competition, when they make the short trip for the Penn State Relays on Saturday, Jan. 10.
