Marist Rides Quick Start to 14-11 Win over Bison

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Katelyn Miller had another big game with four goals and three assists, but Marist jumped out to a fast start and ended Bucknell's three-game winning streak with a 14-11 decision on Saturday at Tenney Stadium. Madison Hurwitz and Sam Rickels also recorded hat tricks for the Bison, who finished the season with a 5-12 record.
Amanda Tuck and Ashley Miller scored four goals apiece and Tierney Larson handed out four assists to lead Marist (8-8). The Red Foxes jumped out to a 7-0 lead after just 10:14 of play and never trailed in the game.
After that rough start, Bucknell got back in it with a 4-0 run. Miller scored twice on free-position shots, and Hurwitz assisted on a Ryan Wenk goal and then had a score of her own that cut it to 7-4. But Marist scored the last four goals of the half to regain that seven-goal cushion, and the Red Foxes extended the lead to as many as eight when Allison Gionta scored 23 seconds into the second half.
Tuck's goal gave Marist a 14-8 lead with 14:06 to play. Bucknell scored three times in the final 5:19 to make it interesting, but could not get any closer.
On the stat sheet Bucknell led 31-27 in shots, committed only 11 turnovers while forcing 17, and played Marist even at 18-apiece in ground balls.
The Red Foxes got a big lift from goalie Ashley Casiano, who finished with 15 saves, nine of them coming in the first half.
Miller finished the season with eight straight multi-point games, and she logged 19 goals and 12 assists for 31 points in her final six games. She ended up with 52 points on 39 goals and 13 assists, setting career highs in all three categories. The 52 points are eighth-most in a season in Bucknell history, and it was the 13th 50-point season in program annals. Miller moved up to eighth on Bucknell's career points list with 136.
Hurwitz recorded at least four points in each of her final four games of the year, and she finished her senior year with 26 goals and 22 assists for 48 points. Her assist and point totals were career bests, and her 129 career points rank 10th in program history. Her 43 career assists rank No. 5 on the all-time list.
Wenk and Adrienne Wendling also donned the Orange & Blue for the final time in this game. Wendling will graduate ranked third on Bucknell's career draw controls chart with 116.
