UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Bucknell women's lacrosse team dropped its second game to a ranked opponent on Wednesday night, as No. 9/10 Penn State defeated the Bison 18-2 inside Holuba Hall. Madison Hurwitz and Emily Kookogey scored for the Bison, who will face yet another top-20 team on Saturday when they travel to No. 15/19 Johns Hopkins.
Penn State, playing its season-opener, got four goals and three assists from Mackenzie Cyr, three goals from Jenna Mosketti and two goals and three assists from Maggie McCormick.
The Nittany Lions, who returned eight starters from last year's NCAA Tournament team, scored the first 13 goals of the game. The Bison recorded back-to-back goals midway through the second half, both of which were assisted. With a player off on a yellow card, Kerri Althouse fed Kookogey for the first goal.
Hurwitz scored 2:04 later off a feed from Sophie Kleinert.
Goalie Caroline O'Neill stopped 11 shots, her second straight game with double-digit saves. Charlotte O'Donnell played the final 4:33 and made one save. Adrienne Wendling led the team with three draw controls, while Kaitlyn Miller and Alex Wallace recorded two ground balls apiece.
The Bison visit Johns Hopkins' Homewood Field for a 4 p.m. start on Saturday. The Blue Jays defeated Mount St. Mary's 18-5 on Wednesday to improve to 2-0 on the season.
