LEWISBURG, Pa. --The Bucknell women's lacrosse team goes in search of its first victory of 2012 on Saturday at Manhattan. Game time is 1 p.m. at Gaelic Park. The Bison are off to an 0-3 start against a brutal schedule, as two of the losses came to nationally ranked foes in Duke and Penn State, followed by last Saturday's setback at Duquesne, one of the top teams in the Atlantic 10. Manhattan is also looking for victory No. 1 after dropping its season opener to Stony Brook, 19-3, on Wednesday.
Bucknell is 2-0 all-time against the Jaspers, including a 17-11 victory at Graham Field last season. Madison Hurwitz was the offensive star of that game with six goals, while then-senior goalie Alyssa DeLorenz recorded a career-high 22 saves. Molly Ford dished out five assists for the Bison, while Katelyn Miller added two goals and an assist. Chrissy Gutenberger led Manhattan with four goals and an assist, but the Jaspers could not overcome Bucknell's early 7-0 run.
So far this season, freshman Arriana Sajjad is the team's top scorer with four goals. Hurwitz has three goals, while freshman Chloe Chou has a team-high three assists. Another first-year player, Emily Kookogey, collected her first two career goals last week at Duquesne.
Gutenberger scored all three Manhattan goals in its opener against Stony Brook. She was the team's top scorer last year with 33 goals and 29 assists, and she now has 131 career goals. The Jaspers, under the direction of first-year head coach Diane Haddeland, were picked tied for sixth in the MAAC preseason poll after finishing 4-10 last season.
Following the Manhattan game, the Bison will play their next two at home. Bucknell hosts George Washington next Saturday followed by Presbyterian on Monday.
