Bucknell Women's Tennis Swept by Army

LEWISBURG, Pa. – After playing some of the closest matches in series history last year, Bucknell women's tennis could not overcome a powerful Army squad, falling 7-0 at the Varsity Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon. Two Bison forced their singles matches into third sets, but the Black Knights earned the regular-season sweep for the first time since 2006.
Things got off to a rocky start for Bucknell as Army allowed them just three total games in doubles play. Only Dara Dwojewski (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) and Elena Vidrascu (Rochester, N.Y./Sutherland) won more than once, but the duo took an 8-2 loss to Margaret Iliev and Carly Riney.
The struggles continued into singles action. Despite being jus the third match off the court, Emily Stein clinched the victory for Army with a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Vidrascu.
Courtney Casey (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Visitation) and Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) forced their foes into third sets to give Bucknell its best look at a point. Casey took the opening set off Della Taylor 6-4. The Bison junior did could not hold her serve for the rest of the match, however, and Taylor won the final two sets at love.
Lucido saw her eight-match winning streak come to an end with a 6-7, 6-1, (10-5) loss to Annie Houghton. It was just the second singles loss in a Patriot League dual for Lucido. The Bison senior's last defeat also came compliments of Army during her rookie campaign.
Bucknell will look to rebound quickly from today's match to prepare for a 2 p.m. meeting with Lafayette tomorrow. The Bison will have Senior Day prior to play at the Varsity Tennis Courts.
