Bucknell Women's Tennis Earns Sweep Over Lafayette on Senior Day

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell women's tennis made quick work of Lafayette, sweeping the Leopards 7-0 at the Varsity Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon. The Bison (8-10, 2-2) allowed just six games to their opponents across six singles matches, allowing them to maintain their position among the top four in the Patriot League standings with two weeks until the league tournament.
Bucknell's sweep is the first it has handed to a Patriot League opponent this year. The Bison's only other 7-0 victory this season came at the end of March against Villanova.
Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) and Elena Vidrascu (Rochester, N.Y./Sutherland) were two Bison who did not allow a single game to their foes. Lucido was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Allie Serranko at first singles, while Vidrascu earned the victory by the same score at fifth singles over Lucy Bass.
Lucido is now 3-1 in Patriot League singles this spring. For her career Lucido, who was recognized along with Dara Dwojewksi (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) and Lauren Rottkamp (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) prior to the match as part of Senior Day, is 84-36 in singles, putting her three wins shy of taking over the program record.
Rottkamp and Dwojewski were also winners in singles. Rottkamp defeated Emily DeLuca 6-0, 6-1, while Dwojewski earned the 6-0, 6-2 decision over Liz Blank.
Dwojewski's victory was her second of the day as she and Vidrascu teamed up for an 8-1 win over Bass and Blank at third doubles. Their win was unnecessary for the doubles point, however. Lucido and Dumitrita Iepuras (Chisinau, Moldova/Germantown Friends School) won 8-4 over Serranko and Caitlin Gordon. Courtney Casey (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Visitation) and Daria Tuzhikova (Minsk, Belarus/Gymnasium No. 7) won 8-2 against Katherin Charchalis and Austin Denesuk.
The win for Casey and Tuzhikova was the first at No. 2 doubles for the tandem. The duo is now 2-3 overall as a team this spring.
Bucknell will be back in action on Tuesday, April 12 when it makes the trip to Lehigh for a 3 p.m. match. The bout will be the last of the Patriot League regular season. The league's tournament gets underway April 22-24 in Annapolis, Md.
